Mario Trujillo – Attorney, Public Servant, and Community Leader

With over 28 years of legal experience, Mario Trujillo is a dedicated advocate for justice, community service, and leadership. Mario is a proud graduate of UC Berkeley, earning degrees in Sociology and Chicano Studies. There, he was deeply involved in student government and social justice initiatives. Mario pursued law at Southwestern University School of Law after UC Berkeley. He was admitted to the California State Bar in 1996.

Mario began his legal career as a Los Angeles County Deputy District Attorney. Over his 25-year tenure, Mario prosecuted complex gang-related homicides, child abuse, and domestic violence cases. He handled 115 jury trials, including 22 murder cases, achieving a 95% conviction rate during this period. He also held management positions, including serving as a Deputy in Charge of the Bellflower DA’s Office.

Outside his legal career, Mario is a passionate public servant and community leader. He currently serves as Mayor and an elected member of the Downey City Council. He has held leadership roles in organizations such as the Mexican American Bar Association (MABA), Community Lawyers Inc., and the Los Angeles Centers for Alcohol and Drug Abuse (LACADA). Mario’s efforts have been recognized numerous times, earning him several awards, including the Access to Justice Award and Attorney of the Year by the Southeast District Bar Association.

Mario remains a fierce advocate, dedicated public servant, and community empowerment advocate, working hard to uplift those in need while shaping the future of his community.
